First criterion

The different types of bracelet

Before choosing a bracelet, it is worth knowing the different types available: each has its own style, purpose and level of elegance.

Bangle

A rigid ring, plain or worked, that slips over the wrist. The bangle is the quintessential fine jewellery bracelet: understated, elegant, timeless. Available in slim or thick versions, plain or chiselled.

Curb chain bracelet

A chain of flat interlocking links. The curb chain bracelet is a French jewellery classic, worn on the wrist or as a necklace. Available in yellow, white or rose gold.

Pearl or gemstone bracelet

Cultured pearls, diamonds, cubic zirconia or coloured stones set in a chain or mounted on a bangle. Perfect for festive occasions or as a luxury gift.

Link bracelet

A chain of round or elaborate links, more flexible and lighter than a curb chain. Worn alone or layered. Suits all styles.

Articulated bracelet

Made up of articulated plates or motifs joined together. More substantial and architectural, it stands out as a statement jewel.

Open cuff

An open bangle that adapts to the wrist by pressure. Modern and minimalist, it is worn alone or stacked. Ideal for someone not accustomed to wearing jewellery.

Second criterion

Choosing the material: gold, silver or steel

The material determines the bracelet's durability, ease of maintenance and price point. Here are the most common options.

Material Advantages Disadvantages Ideal for
Yellow gold 750 Unalterable, noble, timeless High price Investment jewel, luxury gift
White gold 750 Elegant, modern, enhances diamonds Requires periodic rhodium plating Contemporary fine jewellery
Rose gold 750 Romantic, flattering, fashionable No rhodium plating needed Feminine and current style
Silver 925 Accessible, noble, easy to maintain Tarnishes over time Everyday use, first gift
Surgical steel Very resistant, hypoallergenic Less noble aesthetically Sports use, accessories

Third criterion

Finding the right bracelet size

A bracelet size is determined by measuring the wrist circumference and adding 1 to 2 cm of ease for comfort.

Measuring method

Wrap a tape measure or a strip of paper around your wrist, just above the wrist bone. Note the measurement in centimetres.

Ease to add

Add 1 cm for a close fit, 1.5 cm for a classic fit, or 2 cm for a loose fit. For a bangle, allow a minimum of 2 cm ease so it can slide on and off.

Standard sizes

Most women's bracelets are available in size 17–18 cm. For men, between 20 and 22 cm. Many bangle styles are adjustable.

Fourth criterion

Choosing according to the occasion

The most suitable type of bracelet also depends on the occasion for which it is intended: daily wear, birthday gift, wedding or special occasion.

For everyday wear

Choose a slim bangle in gold or silver, or a lightweight link bracelet. Favour models without set stones to avoid snagging on clothing. Silver 925 or slim 750 gold bangles are perfect for daily wear.

For a special occasion or gift

Choose a chunky bangle in 750 gold, a quality curb chain with a secure clasp, or a bracelet set with diamonds or pearls. A fine jewellery bracelet is one of the most appreciated gifts: it holds both monetary value and emotional significance.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ – How to choose a bracelet

What type of bracelet should I choose as a gift?

For a quality gift, choose a bangle in 750 gold or a curb chain in silver 925 or gold. These are timeless pieces that suit all styles and last a lifetime. Our jewellers in Andorra can help you find the ideal model.

How do I measure my wrist for a bracelet?

Wrap a tape measure or a strip of paper around your wrist, just above the bone. Note the measurement and add between 1 and 2 cm of ease depending on the desired fit.

What is the difference between a bangle and a curb chain bracelet?

A bangle is a rigid ring that slips over the wrist: it can be plain or worked, slim or chunky. A curb chain bracelet is a flexible chain made of flat interlocking links with a clasp. The bangle is more understated; the curb chain is more classic and festive.

Can I wear a bracelet every day?

Yes, provided it is made of a noble material: solid 750 gold, solid silver 925 or surgical steel. Avoid gold-plated bracelets for daily wear, as the plating wears away over time. A plain bangle in gold or silver is the ideal bracelet for everyday use.
