The history of Els Benvinguts

  • 1948 — Arrival at Pas de la Casa

In the late 1940s, Pas de la Casa was just a small, isolated hamlet in the heart of the Andorran mountains, battered by snow and wind.

It was there that Joan Borra Cebrian settled in 1948, driven by the idea of building something lasting in this still almost deserted place.

A few shelters, a few rudimentary shops… and a fierce determination to create a living and welcoming space in the middle of the mountain peaks.

  • 1953 — The birth of “Els Benvinguts”

Five years later, he opened his first business: “Els Benvinguts” , which means “The Welcome”.

It's a small mountain shop , where you can find everything: tins of sardines, alcohol, tobacco, perfumes…

But very quickly, Joan developed a passion for jewelry and watches, laying the foundations for what would become the first jewelry store in Pas de la Casa.

  • 1960s — The city's first jeweller

Building on its success, it is expanding its offerings to include fine jewelry and tableware :

Limoges porcelain, Sèvres crystal, Christofle cutlery and rare art objects.

The “Els Benvinguts – Joan Borra” restaurant is becoming an essential address, renowned for its quality and impeccable service.

  • 1970s–1990s — The Golden Age and the Transmission

The jewelry store is experiencing its golden age : sparkling shop windows, loyal customers, warm atmosphere.

Over the years, the family has perpetuated the tradition.

Each generation brings its know-how and its perspective on beauty, rarity, and sustainability.

  • Today — A Living Legacy

More than 70 years after its opening, the house continues its story.

Based in Andorra, it is adapting to the times by now offering its collections online , while retaining the soul and rigor of the past.

Each piece of jewelry reflects the same commitment to quality, trust and service that has been the hallmark of “Els Benvinguts” since 1953.
